thumb_weswait_clEpiphany. The visit of the Magi. And Wise Men. Hmmmm. I love the celebration of Epiphany but I also love the idea of receiving a sudden, intuitive leap of understanding. I think of it kind of like a miracle. This morning in church, my small epiphany was an understanding that some days are just ordinary even when they are supposed to be big or magical. And, it is good to be able to just be ordinary and let the day be ordinary and to know that in spite of my judgment of “ordinariness,” there really are no ordinary days…….every day of life is a miracle.

I think most of us are more like the Fourth Wise Man, Artaban. He was supposed to be part of the caravan that went to pay homage to the birth of Jesus, the King. Instead, he stopped on the way to care for a dying stranger. When he reaches the meeting place, they had left without him. For years after, Artaban felt like a failure. He didn’t see the actual epiphany of the Divine, but in his act of compassion, he served the Divine purpose. Perhaps, we all serve the Divine purpose more than we know and when we choose to do right over a “more important” event, we pay homage to You, God.

Don’t know who wrote this but, I love it:

“Have compassion for everyone you meet, even if they don’t want it. What appears bad manners, an ill temper or cynicism is always a sign of things no ears have heard, no eyes have seen. You do not know what wars are going on down there where the spirit meets the bone.”

Thank You, God for always living inside of me even when I am blind to Your Presence. Help me to seek Your Light in me every day and pay homage to You in every action I take. Amen.
